How I write ad copy in just 8 crazy steps:
Step 1: Start by reviewing the creative brief and brand voice guidelines.
Step 2: Create a list of on-brand nouns, verbs, and adjectives (I find this helps to get my thoughts flowing in the client’s voice).
Step 3: Check out relevant social media pages, websites, and YouTube videos from the client, competitors, and any other major players in the industry. Update the list created in step 2 as needed.
Step 4: Start a list of potential headlines— write down anything that comes to mind, no matter how dumb it may seem at the moment.
Step 5: Take a snack break (for some reason, writing always makes me hungry).
Step 6: Revisit the list of headlines— at this point, inspiration for the rest of the copy usually hits.
Step 7: Write the entire ad, and then walk away for at least a couple of hours.
Step 8: Scrutinize and tweak accordingly until it’s client-ready.
